Want to Save the World?

For those of you who may not be familiar, Dave Ramsey is a financial guru who teaches others in the form via television, radio, and books.  His “take charge” attitude gets right to the point and forces people to wake up and take action in their financial futures.

His recent blog post “The Secret That Changes the World” discusses what it really takes to make positive changes in the world and in your life.  If you are up for finding out the answer, visit the article at http://www.daveramsey.com/article/the-secret-word-that-changes-the-world/lifeandmoney_other.  It is a great article and worth reading!

Book review: Your Money or Your Life Joe Dominguez & Vicki Robin

Your Money or Your Life by Joe Dominguez & Vicki Robin is a “must read” for everyone who deals with money (that’s everyone)!

The book walks you through the steps of finding out where you are financially.  It forces you to calculate your spending down to the penny & find savings opportunities.  The book walks you through determining your values and goals to find ways to put your money to work towards the future.  I first read this when my (then) fiance and I combined our household money.  It was an eye-opener for both of us and helped open the lines of communication for us to talk about this important subject.

It is different from the typical budgeting book in that it focuses less on specific tips of how to save money, and more about examining needs versus wants.  It speaks to the value of your time and whether your spending is aligned with your values.
